The Hallow (2015) Ending Explained [Spoiler]

The Hallow Ending Explained and Plot Details:

At the beginning of the movie we see a family. The three members were Adam (played by Joseph Maule), his wife Claire (played by Bojana Novakovic) and their young son Finn. They move to an Irish village in the woods for Adam’s work in tree research. They live alone in a house in a dense, isolated forest with no roads nearby. Adam’s job is to study dead or infected trees. They have to live there because of Adam’s job. The house is old and made of wood. The villagers dislike Adam’s plant research, and a man named Colm (played by Michael McElhatton) goes to Adam’s wife to express his concerns. He told about the danger of her husband’s work.

He asks her to stop her husband. Adam’s wife realizes and begs her husband to listen to Colm, but he believes it is a ploy to made him leave this place. Despite the disapproval of the villagers, Adam is determined to complete his task. Colm tries to convince Adam’s wife several times.

Colm was doing this because the forest had a dark and mysterious history. The villagers believed in the existence of deadly demons who only attacked those who tried to harm them. Colm lost his daughter in the forest, he could not find her dead or alive and that is why he warned Adam’s wife about the danger. But Adam ignored the warning and continued his research.

At that point, we know that people who tried to study monsters never came back. When Colm first arrives there, he doesn’t believe the stories at first, but his daughter’s disappearance makes him believe them. The fate of his daughter remained a mystery, and the forest was considered unsafe by many. So he told Adam’s wife to leave the place. Adam ignores them until he starts encountering many mysterious things. When he goes to the forest for his work, he finds a black liquid oozing from the trees. Later he researched black liquid. He found the structure of this liquid to be strange.

He did not compare it to monster and thought it was a new invention. But from that night something mysterious and terrifying started happening to them. They heard crying from their baby’s room. He went there and saw someone breaking the lamp and window. They inform the police. Adam thinks that someone in the village did it to stop his research. The police officer believes that a bird is responsible for the recent incident, but also warns of dangerous animals in the forest. Claire gets scared and remembers the iron rods in the window, she removes them all. Adam goes to the market with their baby and is treated badly by the villagers.

They return home in the evening. On the way their car suddenly broke down and was not repaired till evening. Adam began to hear many strange sounds. He was taking something for protection from the hood of the car but someone attacked him and he fainted. When he regained consciousness, he found himself in the hood of the car and his child was crying. Somehow he escaped from there and returned safely to his home. But because of this incident he starts to believe the monster stories. Holding a gun, he called the police but suddenly the lights went out.

They were very scared and Adam decided to leave the place that night and asked his wife to take the luggage. They leave the place but Adam realizes the monster is surrounding them. They only can feel them because of the darkness. They reach their car with great difficulty. But as soon as Adam starts the car, they see the monster. Seeing this, Adam and his wife get scared which causes the car to lose control and crash. They realize that they are trapped and somehow they return to their home and find a hiding place to survive. Adam and Claire discuss about the monster.

Claire reveals that light is their weakness and iron rods were once fixed in the house for protection. Familiar monsters are present there. Adam peeks through the door to see the monster but something like a needle sticks in his eye. He begins to transform into a monster, as the monsters have placed something in his eye. He discovers that monsters have been there for thousands of years and can turn a normal human into a monster like them. Adam is frightened by the transformation and fears that if he becomes a complete monster, he will become an enemy of his wife and child.

While Adam was turning on the generator, Adam’s wife was attacked by the monster. They try to transform her into a monster by inserting their parts into her eyes. But the light comes on when Adam turns on the generator, and they disappear. Adam has already transformed due to the monster part being inserted into his eye, but he is still human. They hide their baby Finn in a closet to protect him from monsters. Later, when they check the closet, they find a black monster carrying the child through the wall. The Monster takes the child into the forest and Adam’s wife follows him. He found the child in a tank and took him back home.

When Adam’s wife hands the baby over to Adam, Adam realizes that the baby is not theirs. He tries to kill the child, but his wife wounds him and runs away with the child. Adam follows them in search. On the other hand, a woman who lost her daughter in the forest is holding Adam’s baby. Adam realizes that he is surrounded by monsters. Adam fights them and gets his baby back. Adam then finds his wife and children but they are trying to hide from him. He tries to convince his wife that the baby she is holding is not theirs.

It was hard for Adam’s wife to believe that the child in her arms was not their own, because it looked exactly like their child and wore the same clothes. She finally trusts Adam and runs away with the baby from Adam. Adam, on the other hand, stays behind and was fighting with the remain monsters to protect his wife & son.

In the end, the monsters kill Adam and it is revealed that the child Adam’s wife picked first was a monster. Night falls, the monster child is burned by the sunlight of the day. Adam’s guess was correct and the baby was transplanted. The monsters did this because they wanted to take the child into their world. At this point, the monster lost the game and that’s how the movie ends here.
